Indian Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Trust: Our Founder

Indian Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Trust was started on January 23rd, 2017 in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), India, by Ramesh Chandra Dixit (Retired Colonel from the Indian Army).

Ramesh comes from a family of farmers and is passionate about farming, agriculture, and the healing power of medicinal plants for human well-being. He is also a highly-regarded lawyer in the Lucknow High
 Court.

During a career spanning 40+ years, Ramesh travelled across the length & breadth of India - collecting and discovering medicinal plants from all corners of the country and documenting & researching information about the health benefits of each plant.

Since his retirement in 2007, Ramesh has spent considerable time building a Farm on the outskirts of Lucknow, UP, and cultivating various herbal medicinal plants.

Where is the IMAP Trust Based & What Does It Hope To Achieve?

IMAP is a registered Trust, based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The Trust deals with several ayurvedic herbal species which it grows organically for common masses in its Vanaushadhi Ashram Farm (Forest herbs home) located in village Sudauli, Tehsil Maharaj Ganj, Distt Raebareilly, India. Its area of operation spreads to all the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh.

Through this Non-Profit Trust, the Team hopes to revive ancient Indian herbal knowledge so that others can learn & gain excellent health benefits.

They also aim to build a connected and supportive ecosystem to train farmers, agriculturists, farming enthusiasts, about farming best practices, when growing herbal medicinal plants.

Finally, the Trust plans to set up an online Store through which others may be able to buy medicinal plants, seeds and associated products.

HISTORY OF HERBAL MEDICINAL PLANTS

India is the ancient treasure trove of immense knowledge of herbal medicinal plants.

Starting from the venerable Rishi Dhanvantari, the Hindu God Of Medicine, this vast field has always attracted the human mind and created curiosity towards the healing powers of herbs. Charaka Samhita (Charaka's collection), Sushruta Samhita (Sushruta's collection) & Vagbhatta's Astangahrdaya are extensive books on Ayurveda and the immense power of medicinal plants.

Due to India's history of outside invasions, much of this precious historical Indian medicinal knowledge has been lost. Thousands of manuscripts on medicinal plants, studied & researched at the Taxila and Nalanda universities of ancient India, were destroyed and mercilessly burnt.

The ‘pill happy’ modern generation is at risk of losing ancient herbal medicinal knowledge due to an overemphasis on ready-to-eat synthetic solutions. There is a crying need to transfer this treasure trove of ancient knowledge to future generations.

It requires an understanding of all those healing plants which have so far been searched, tested, and found fit in all respects for their efficacy in treating human beings.

Unknown to many, but experimented thousands of years back, we find plants offering us healing powers and providing rejuvenating benefits. Through photosynthesissis, plants accumulate micronutrients from the soil which in turn is used by humans in different forms i.e. through their roots, leaves, fruits, bark, etc.

Our Trust’s Learners will be thoroughly acquainted with the use of herbs in an intelligent, safe, and affordable manner.
